My So-Called Life

My boss would’ve called this “horse-y”

On Monday I got an email from the assistant to one of the ministers at my church. This email apparently went out to all small group leaders and said:
It’s time again for our ladies to host holiday teas as an outreach to your neighborhood. We have invitations, tea bags, and other goodies in the SFC at the ___________ campus. Just pick those up when you have a chance. We also have some dessert items at the _________ campus if you are interested.

So I thought about it and sent back an email today that said:
Hi, ______. Thanks for the email! Could you tell me if the men are being offered the opportunity to host teas as well or perhaps another comparable event? I'd hate to think that they're missing out on a ministry opportunity because of their gender.

I have not yet received a reply. I sort of hate that I unloaded on the messenger, but I, for one, am offended by the idea of a “holiday tea” for ladies. Next thing you know we’ll be making tiaras out of pipe cleaners and practicing our liturgical dancing between our appointed service times in the nursery.

Wow. That sounded cynical. I'm not a huge fan of parties that assume women will be in charge of all the cooking, bring baked goods, etc...but I like the idea of having old traditional (albeit slightly assuming that women enjoy sipping tea and dressing fancy) party types because it makes the older women feel more comfortable. It's fun to watch them enjoy themselves so much.
We stilllll haven't scheduled lunch. You're cooking right? Tea's on me. :) too easy.
